MUNICIPAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT
The Public Health Inspector is the head of the Municipal Health department of the Municipal Council. Health and Sanitation based activities are the main tasks of the Health Department in the Council

- Solid Waste Management
- Conducting Programs on Disease Control and Prevention
- Programs on Health Care and Health Development in schools
- Health Clinic programs
- Activities on preventing spreading disease
- Maintaining the 'Ayurvedha' Medical Clinic & treatment service
- Activities according to the Food Act of Sri Lanka and conducting programs on food health
- Awareness programs on Health for professions.
- Awareness programs on Health Laws and Regulations
- Sanitation services at the Central Market
- Community Environment & Health Services
- Control on Public Toilets
- Constructing Houses and Toilets for low income earners
- Programs on Tree Planting
- Activities on woman development
- Services through Environment Health Committee
- Guli Vehicle Service
- Maintenance of the Crematory and Cemetery.
GENERAL TASKS & ACTIVITIES
- Disposal of refuse by the scavenging section
- Cleaning of the drains within the city
- Disposal of refuse during the night shift
- Prevention of communicable disease and to educate the citizens on prevention
- Anti-mosquito campaigns
- Repairing of public latrines, and to assist needy by giving financial aid
- Advise food processing institutions like bakeries and hotels, bakeries to keep the places clean and tidy to maintain hygienic conditions.
- Check the food and take samples and send for tests
- Supply of pure water and the monthly sampling of water
- Anti-rabies campaign for prevention
- Conducting clinics for mother and children and to educate them to prevent against polio and other similar diseases
